Renowned actress Linda Hamilton, known for her iconic role in “The Terminator,” is embracing her age and the natural changes that come with it. In a recent interview with AARP, published on March 15, 2024, the 69-year-old Hamilton shared her perspective on aging, stating that she does not feel the need to pursue beauty or longevity.

Hamilton expressed a sense of acceptance regarding her appearance, saying, “I have just completely surrendered to the fact that this is the face that I’ve earned.” She emphasized the importance of embracing the lines and features that reflect the life she has lived. Rather than focusing on trying to look younger, she has chosen to prioritize health and live in the moment. “I don’t chase beauty, and I don’t chase longevity particularly,” she noted.

Finding Balance and Joy in Life

At this stage in her life, Hamilton finds more significant concerns than her looks. She aims to maintain her health while allowing herself the occasional indulgence, stating, “But not all the time — sometimes it is just a jelly donut. I’m not rigid, which is a fantastic way to get older.” She likens her approach to happiness to being “in the middle of a fast-moving river and not trying to swim to the left or the right side,” highlighting her desire to remain fluid and adaptable.

Currently starring in the final season of “Stranger Things,” Hamilton attends physical therapy three times a week to stay fit for her role. Her workouts are tailored to her daily needs, encompassing a variety of exercises such as Pilates, yoga, and strength training. “I kind of love that: to go in and not have a chest and back day, but just have a ‘what do you need to loosen up and stretch out today?'” she explained.

A Life Transformed by Loss

The death of her twin sister five years ago significantly impacted Hamilton’s outlook on life, prompting her to tackle bucket-list goals she had previously postponed. “It sure did shake me up a little bit, the huge loss of my other half,” she reflected. Hamilton has since resumed activities she enjoyed in her youth, such as horseback riding, after a hiatus of 40 years.

Despite the challenges of aging, Hamilton finds great satisfaction in her current life. “I fully inhabit myself in a way that I never did when I was younger. I’m not trying to please anyone or prove anything or show off,” she remarked. She has discovered a balance between her career and personal life, ensuring she remains connected with her community and friends. “I certainly feel like everything is a blessing right now,” she added.

Hamilton has consistently spoken out about aging and societal expectations. In an essay for Glamour in October 2019, she questioned the pressure to maintain an image of eternal youth. “Why does 40 have to be the new 60? Why can’t 60 be the new 60?” she challenged. In a subsequent interview with Us Weekly, she criticized Hollywood’s fixation on youth, asserting, “Of course people are going to look at me and say ‘Oh, she got old.’ Yes, I did, and I have so much more to say as a strong, experienced life-ridden woman.”

As she continues her journey, Hamilton remains an inspiring figure, advocating for a more authentic approach to aging and self-acceptance.
