Pete Davidson Surprises ‘SNL’ Fans with Ferry Boat Humor
Pete Davidson returned to the spotlight with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live during the “Weekend Update” segment, where he humorously addressed a recent article about the Staten Island Ferry he purchased with fellow comedian Colin Jost. The segment, which aired on October 14, 2023, featured Davidson responding to a report from The New York Times that labeled their ferry venture a “money losing fiasco.”
Jost introduced Davidson with a lighthearted jab, saying, “With more on this, is Pete Davidson,” as Davidson entered the frame. The comedian greeted the audience with a playful remark about Jost’s appearance, then shifted focus to his own career developments. He mentioned his participation in the upcoming Riyadh Comedy Festival and shared the news that he is expecting his first child.
Davidson quipped, “In case you’re wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we’re losing millions on this ferry.” His comment drew laughter from the audience, highlighting his knack for blending personal life with comedy. He continued joking about their ferry investment, stating, “We even gave the boat a new name. We thought the Staten Island Ferry sounded too depressing, so now it’s called the Titanic 2.”
Jost played along, adding that they had secured sponsorship from Nike to feature an advertisement on their ferry during the New York City Marathon. Davidson seized the moment to humorously critique Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of SNL, saying, “If Lorne Michaels has taught us anything, it’s that you never ever give up, even if everyone says the time has come.”
Earlier in the day, Davidson spoke with People magazine, expressing his willingness to return to the show as a host if Michaels were to extend an invitation. He remarked, “I had a great time hosting last time, and anytime you get that call, it’s an honor and a privilege.”
Davidson was a cast member of SNL from 2014 to 2022 and has made several cameo appearances since then. His blend of humor and personal anecdotes continues to resonate with audiences, making his return to the show a highly anticipated event.
With discussions around their ferry investment and Davidson’s personal milestones, the segment captured both humor and heartfelt moments, showcasing why audiences remain engaged with his journey in the entertainment industry.
