Scott Adams Shares Hospital Update, Cancels Live Stream
Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert, shared a personal update with fans on November 2, 2023, revealing that he has been hospitalized due to complications related to his prostate cancer. He announced he would not be hosting his regular live stream, “Coffee with Scott Adams,” as he was unable to leave his hospital chair.
In two separate videos posted on social media, Adams explained his situation. He humorously noted his confinement to a chair, stating, “I’m tied to a chair in the hospital. Well, velcroed to a chair. I suppose I could escape if I wanted to.” Despite his lighthearted tone, he assured viewers he was doing well and expected to be discharged later that day.
Adams had previously disclosed his cancer diagnosis during a May episode of his show. On the morning of his hospitalization, he experienced discomfort that led to an early conclusion of his Tuesday episode. During the live streams, he expressed gratitude to his audience, which included about 1,000 viewers at one point, and addressed their concerns directly.
“I’m in the hospital. I’ll be out probably I think later today. Should be fine. Small-ish problems,” he stated in one of the clips. He described the numerous medical connections he had, mentioning, “I’m connected in every way you can be connected to a building. I got things stuck in my arm.”
Adams also indicated that he was receiving antibiotics, suggesting he might have contracted an infection while in the hospital. He interacted with viewers, sharing his discomfort and awaiting breakfast as he broadcast live.
In a previous episode, Adams had called on former President Donald Trump to assist him with his health insurance provider, Kaiser Permanente, after he reported delays in receiving a treatment known as Pluvicto, which is critical for his condition. He later remarked that this intervention likely saved his life. Following this, he noted that Kaiser had improved its response to his needs, stating they were providing him with “a high-quality product.”
Adams’ candid updates and his ability to connect with followers through humor continue to resonate, even during challenging times. As he concluded his live streams, he expressed his hope to resume normal programming soon, saying, “I will see you maybe tomorrow. I don’t know.”
As Adams navigates his health challenges, his openness about his journey provides a glimpse into the life of a public figure dealing with serious medical issues while maintaining a connection with his audience.
