A collaborative initiative in Chicago is preparing to serve meals to those in need this Thanksgiving. The event, titled “Home for the Holidays,” is a partnership between Ignite-Futures with Promise and Rock of Our Salvation Church, with culinary contributions from Chef Ora Triest. This annual dinner aims to provide nourishment and support to the local homeless community.

On Thanksgiving Day, the event will take place at 5628 West Washington Boulevard, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The meals will be offered free of charge and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Chef Ora expressed the importance of such initiatives, stating, “During the holidays, it’s important that we come together as a community to help those who are in need. I enjoy serving and sharing my love for cooking. This is a part of my mission as a chef and a Black woman from Chicago.”

This year, the organizers are aiming to expand their outreach to ensure that even more individuals can be served. By collaborating with local businesses and volunteers, they hope to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone attending. Chef Ora’s passion for cooking and community service highlights the spirit of the season and emphasizes the role of local chefs in giving back.

In an interview with ABC7 Chicago, Chef Ora discussed her commitment to this mission and encouraged others to join the effort. She emphasized that every contribution, whether through volunteering or donating, makes a significant difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate.

The initiative not only aims to provide meals but also to foster a sense of belonging and support among community members. As the holiday season approaches, events like “Home for the Holidays” serve as a reminder of the importance of compassion and solidarity in addressing food insecurity.

As Chicago prepares for this annual gathering, the hope is that the community will come together to ensure that no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving.
