The Chabad of Mobile is organizing two significant Chanukah celebrations to take place in the coming weeks, inviting community members to engage in a charitable initiative supporting the local food bank, Feeding the Gulf Coast. The events aim to foster community spirit while addressing food insecurity in the Mobile and Baldwin areas.

The celebrations will feature a unique project called the CAN-NORAH, where attendees are encouraged to donate canned goods. These donations will be used to construct a menorah, which will be lit during the celebrations. According to Chabad of Mobile, all food items collected will be donated to Feeding the Gulf Coast for distribution to those in need.

Chanukah begins on December 7, 2023, and the community events are a way to bring people together in a meaningful and festive manner. Local Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis is expected to participate in the menorah lighting ceremony, adding an element of local governance to the celebration.

“Together we can make the world brighter,” said a representative from Chabad of Mobile, expressing enthusiasm for the collaborative effort. The organization is encouraging community members to contribute either by bringing canned goods directly to the Chabad center or by making monetary donations to purchase cans.

The CAN-NORAH project will run over the next three weeks, culminating in the lighting of the menorah during the Chanukah events. This initiative not only honors the spirit of the holiday but also emphasizes the importance of community support in addressing local hunger issues.

Participants can drop off their canned goods at the Chabad center or contact the organization for more details on making a monetary contribution. This initiative highlights the power of community action, particularly during the festive season, and aims to create a positive impact on those facing food insecurity in the region.

In a time when many struggle with access to food, the Chabad of Mobile’s events serve as a reminder of the importance of giving back, reinforcing the values of compassion and community that are central to the celebration of Chanukah.
