Community Invited to Songwriting Workshop and Concert in Bemidji
Musicians Myron Swimmer and Shannon Murray are hosting two nights of musical events at the Headwaters Peace Center in Bemidji. The events aim to promote creativity and community engagement among participants of all abilities and experience levels.
The series begins with an Inclusive Songwriting Workshop scheduled for October 22, 2023, from 18:00 to 20:00. This workshop provides an opportunity for attendees to explore songwriting as a means of self-expression and community building. Participants will work in a welcoming and supportive environment, allowing them to share their thoughts and feelings through music.
A follow-up event, an open stage concert, will take place on October 24, 2023, also from 18:00 to 20:00. This concert will feature performances by Swimmer and Murray, alongside local community members who wish to showcase their own songs, poetry, or other creative works.
Both events are free and open to the public, encouraging broad participation. Interested individuals are invited to RSVP in advance to ensure their spot. Registration can be completed online at https://bit.ly/SingForInclusion.
These initiatives are supported by a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, funded by the voters of Minnesota through a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund. This backing illustrates the commitment to fostering artistic expression and community connections within the region.
As the events approach, both Swimmer and Murray express enthusiasm for the opportunities these workshops and performances will create. They invite all community members to join, regardless of their musical background or skill level, emphasizing that the essence of the events lies in participation and connection.
The Headwaters Peace Center, located at 1826 Mikrantip Rd. SW, serves as a vibrant hub for community activities, making it an ideal venue for such inclusive gatherings. With the focus on creativity and collaboration, these events promise to be enriching experiences for everyone involved.
