Craig Sheil Honored as MassCUE Pathfinder at 2025 Conference
FITCHBURG — Craig Sheil, an adjunct instructor at Fitchburg State University, has been awarded the prestigious MassCUE Pathfinder Award during the 2025 MassCUE conference held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. This recognition highlights Sheil’s significant contributions to the field of educational technology.
The MassCUE Pathfinder Award is granted to educators in Massachusetts who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to enhancing digital teaching and learning. Sheil shares this honor with Dr. Rayna Freedman, a fifth-grade teacher at Jordan Jackson School in Mansfield.
Sheil boasts an extensive background in education, having spent the last 23 years in public education. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher before transitioning to his current role as a digital learning specialist. In this capacity, he supports staff at Bedford High School in Bedford, New Hampshire, in effectively integrating technology into their teaching practices.
Reflecting on his recognition, Sheil expressed, “It is such an honor to be recognized for this award. I am certainly proud of the work that I have done along my educational journey.” He completed his master’s degree at Fitchburg State University in 2012 and has since been committed to applying his knowledge both in his teaching and his role as a digital learning specialist.
Impact of Technology in Education
Sheil emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of education, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence. “It certainly is not a dull moment as we continue to navigate this world of AI and what that might look like in the educational setting,” he stated. This forward-thinking approach allows him to bring insights from his specialist role into the university classroom and vice versa.
Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE) is a recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educators enthusiastic about digital teaching and learning. The organization’s commitment to advancing educational technology is evident in the recognition given to leaders like Sheil and Freedman.
The MassCUE Pathfinder Award not only highlights individual achievements but also inspires other educators to innovate and enhance their teaching methods. As educational technology continues to evolve, the efforts of educators like Sheil and Freedman remain crucial in shaping effective learning environments for students across the Commonwealth.
