Friends Association Opens New Shelter to Aid Families in Need
The Friends Association has announced the opening of a new family shelter and office building in West Chester, Pennsylvania, aimed at providing critical support for families experiencing homelessness. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for January 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the facility located at 825 Paoli Pike. This development marks a significant step in addressing the rising issue of family homelessness in Chester County.
Expansion of Services to Address Homelessness
The newly constructed facility will serve as the central office for Friends Association staff, featuring ten fully renovated apartment units designed to accommodate families in need. These two- and three-bedroom apartments will provide emergency shelter for families, increasing the organization’s capacity from six to sixteen families at a time. This expansion is expected to greatly enhance Chester County’s ability to respond effectively to family homelessness and housing instability.
By increasing its capacity, Friends Association aims to bolster its support for families striving for stability and long-term housing security. The organization will employ its STEPS case management program, which focuses on guiding families toward achieving independence through personalized support.
Community Collaboration and Impact
The ribbon-cutting event will gather community leaders, partners, supporters, and staff, all coming together to celebrate this collaborative effort. Attendees will include Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe, who will deliver remarks emphasizing the importance of the new shelter and its anticipated impact on families across the county.
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to providing dignified and family-centered solutions to homelessness,” said Karina Olmeda, a representative of Friends Association.
Members of the media and the community are invited to attend the ceremony, which promises to highlight the positive changes this new facility will bring to families facing housing challenges in Chester County.
