Oi Shiba Relocates to Convoy Street, Expanding Ramen Offerings
Oi Shiba, a popular ramen restaurant based in San Diego, is set to relocate to a new address at 4428 Convoy St, Suite 120. This move comes after the restaurant operated for roughly one year at its previous location in Pacific Beach, where it garnered attention for its Japanese-inspired ramen bowls and eclectic side dishes. The new site will take over the space formerly occupied by Da Nang Corner, as indicated by a recent liquor license application. An official opening date has not yet been announced.
At the new location, guests can anticipate the return of Oi Shiba’s signature ramen dishes, including the White Shiba, Red Shiba, Black Shiba, and Veggie Shiba. Additionally, the menu features popular side dishes such as takoyaki, karaage, and Japanese-inspired yubu bites. The restaurant’s name translates to “delicious” in Japanese, while also paying homage to the Shiba Inu dog breed, reflecting a playful brand identity.
New Location in a Thriving Restaurant Corridor
The relocation to Convoy Street places Oi Shiba within one of San Diego’s most vibrant restaurant corridors, known for its diverse culinary offerings. The area has recently welcomed several new tenants, including Hongdae Dakgalbi, which is set to open in December 2023, taking over the former Nice 2 Meet U Chuan Chuan Hot Pot space next door.
Oi Shiba’s menu not only includes an array of ramen bowls with various broths and house-made sauces but also features seasonal beverages. Customers can choose from refreshing options such as sparkling yuzu lemonade, peach lemonade, and honeydew lemonade, along with a selection of hot teas. The restaurant caters to dietary preferences by allowing many dishes to be prepared with lighter sodium upon request, ensuring that all items are made to order.
Franklin Chou, the driving force behind Oi Shiba, brings extensive experience in the San Diego dining scene. He has previously opened and operated multiple concepts, including Steamy Piggy, Formoosa, Flama Llama, Bok Bok Dok, and VietNom. Chou’s vision focuses on creating casual, approachable Japanese comfort food, meticulously crafted to enhance both flavor and presentation.
The upcoming opening of Oi Shiba on Convoy Street is anticipated to contribute positively to the local dining landscape, offering residents and visitors alike an exciting new venue for enjoying authentic ramen and Japanese cuisine. As the restaurant prepares for its transition, patrons can look forward to the same quality and creativity that defined its original location.
