Analyst Names Taron Johnson as Bills’ Key Trade Asset for 2026
The Buffalo Bills, currently holding a 6-3 record, remain competitive in the AFC playoff race as the NFL season progresses. With Week 11 now underway, analysts are already turning their attention to the upcoming offseason, with Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon identifying cornerback Taron Johnson as a significant trade asset for the Bills in 2026.
In his analysis, Gagnon considered various potential trade chips across all 32 NFL teams. He highlighted Johnson’s value as an experienced slot cornerback, stating, “Maybe we can talk about Greg Rousseau if they plan to draft an edge defender early and re-sign Joey Bosa and/or A.J. Epenesa, but those are some big ifs and Rousseau’s contract would be tough to move.” This perspective underscores the complexity of trading players, especially those with established contracts.
At 29 years old, Johnson offers reliability in the Buffalo secondary. His performance has been consistent, making him a trusted player on the roster. However, as Gagnon points out, the Bills may consider moving him as they look to inject youth into the team. The question remains whether the Bills would entertain such a move, particularly as Johnson seems to be one of their less pressing concerns heading into the offseason.
While trading Johnson could provide a strategic advantage, it may not yield an attractive return. Gagnon suggests that it would be challenging for the Bills to secure anything beyond a Day 3 draft pick for him. This reality emphasizes the need for the team to weigh the benefits of freeing up salary cap space against the potential loss of a dependable player.
As the Bills navigate the remainder of the season, the focus will undoubtedly shift to how they manage their roster for the future. The decisions they make regarding players like Johnson will be critical as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
In other news related to the Bills, recent additions to the team have sparked excitement among coaches, with head coach Sean McDermott expressing optimism about their potential impact. The Bills continue to build on their current roster as they prepare for both the challenges of the present season and the strategic moves of the upcoming offseason.
