Cam Skattebo Undergoes Surgery, Out for Remainder of Season
New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo underwent successful surgery on October 26, 2025, to repair a dislocated right ankle. The injury occurred during the Giants’ Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, where Skattebo was tackled by linebacker Zack Baun while attempting to catch a pass. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the procedure was performed at a hospital in the Philadelphia area, stating, “All went well. He’s recovering. Obviously, he’ll be missed, but on the road to recovery… He’s got a road ahead of him.”
Skattebo’s injury was classified as an open dislocation, necessitating immediate medical attention instead of a transfer back to New York. The incident unfolded midway through the second quarter, leaving players from both teams visibly shaken. Fellow rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was notably distressed, reportedly shouting in despair before kneeling on the field.
The Arizona State product was carted off the field with his ankle immobilized, marking a significant setback for the Giants. Dart expressed the emotional toll of witnessing his teammate’s injury, stating, “I was devastated. It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down… that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game… It’s emotional.”
During his time on the field this season, Skattebo had made a substantial impact, accumulating 410 rushing yards on 101 carries, along with five touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing game, recording 24 receptions for 207 yards and two additional scores. His dynamic partnership with Dart has been a highlight for the team this season, and his absence will be felt as the Giants navigate the rest of the campaign.
With Skattebo sidelined, the Giants now look to a committee approach in the backfield, turning to Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary to fill the void. The team is also considering the possibility of making a trade for additional rushing support ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
As the Giants regroup, the focus will be on rallying around their injured teammate while striving to maintain momentum in the remainder of the season. Skattebo’s road to recovery will be closely monitored by both the team and its fans as they hope for his return to the field in the future.
