Jadeveon Clowney Shines as Cowboys Eye Future with New Talents
In a standout performance on December 25, 2025, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney made a significant impact in his first season with the Dallas Cowboys. Clowney recorded 1.5 sacks during the game against the Washington Commanders, contributing to the Cowboys’ defensive strength as they look ahead to the 2026 season. His performance has not only turned heads but has also sparked discussions about the future roster composition of the team.
Clowney’s Impact and Team Dynamics
Clowney, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, has proven to be a key player for the Cowboys, now tied for the team lead with 5.5 sacks this season. His recent performance against the Commanders highlighted his relentless pursuit of the quarterback, a trait noted by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. “You look up and you saw 42 harassing the quarterback,” Schottenheimer remarked, referring to Clowney’s jersey number.
Alongside Clowney, teammates George Pickens and Javonte Williams have also impressed throughout the season, raising questions about their positions on next season’s roster. Although no contracts are finalized, expectations are high for their roles in the upcoming year.
Clowney’s attitude and work ethic have resonated within the team. After the game, he expressed a straightforward motivation: “What you mean motivated? They’re paying me. That’s enough motivation for me. I like money.” This commitment was evident as he delivered a strong performance despite the Cowboys being out of playoff contention.
Lessons from Experience
As a veteran in his 12th season, Clowney has developed a perspective that he shares with younger players. Schottenheimer noted a conversation Clowney had earlier that week, urging teammates to appreciate their opportunities in the NFL, even when the ultimate goal of a Super Bowl victory seems out of reach. “Never take it for granted,” Clowney advised, reflecting on his journey since being drafted.
Clowney’s enjoyment of the game is palpable. “A lot,” he said when asked about how much fun he is having this season. “It’s football, man. Not everybody can do it. It’s a blessing for me to still be playing 12 years. I thank God every day for that.” His enthusiasm is infectious, and teammate Dak Prescott acknowledged the positive influence Clowney brings to the locker room, stating, “We’re fortunate to have him. He’s one of those guys that we’ve got to figure out a way to keep.”
With an eye towards the future, Clowney expressed interest in returning to the Cowboys if the opportunity arises. “I’ve got a lot left in the tank,” he stated confidently. Clowney’s hope to participate in training camp next season signals his dedication to maintaining peak performance and contributing to the team’s success.
The Cowboys continue to navigate their roster decisions as they prepare for the 2026 season. Clowney’s veteran presence, combined with the potential of emerging talents like Pickens and Williams, could shape the direction of the team in the coming years. As the current season wraps up, the focus shifts to building a competitive team for the future, with Clowney at the forefront of that effort.
