Kenneth Walker Poised for Increased Role as Seahawks Face Titans
The Seattle Seahawks are set to increase the workload of running back Kenneth Walker after a strong performance against the Los Angeles Rams. Despite a narrow loss, Walker showcased his skills with 67 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts, in addition to 44 receiving yards from three receptions. After a brief injury concern noted in a practice report, he is confirmed to play in the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans.
As the Seahawks prepare for this matchup, head coach Mike Macdonald indicated that Walker has earned more opportunities. “I think Ken’s showing that he’s earning more opportunities to get the ball,” Macdonald stated, emphasizing the coaching staff’s growing confidence in the young running back. Walker’s increasing importance in the offense is a response to his efficiency relative to his teammate, Zach Charbonnet.
Walker is averaging 4.5 yards per carry this season, significantly higher than Charbonnet’s average of just 3.3 yards. This notable difference in performance has prompted a shift in the Seahawks’ strategy. According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, the decision to lean more on Walker was “inevitable based on the on-field results.”
In total, Walker has accumulated 606 rushing yards on 136 attempts this season, scoring four touchdowns. Charbonnet, while contributing six touchdowns, has only managed 350 yards on 105 carries, highlighting the efficiency gap that is influencing game-time decisions.
As the Seahawks aim to improve their run game, which has struggled for much of the season, Walker’s health will be crucial. The recent concern surrounding a glute injury from practice raised questions about his availability, but he is expected to play against the Titans, which should provide a significant boost to the Seahawks’ offensive strategy.
With Walker leading the backfield, the Seahawks are looking to revitalize their running game and build on the optimism generated from his performance against the Rams. The commitment to utilizing Walker more prominently signals a clear pivot in the team’s offensive approach as they aim for a stronger showing in the weeks ahead.
