Rangers’ Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim Among 66 Non-Tendered Players
On Friday, the Texas Rangers announced that outfielder Adolis Garcia and catcher Jonah Heim were among 66 Major League Baseball (MLB) players who were non-tendered contracts by their teams. This decision means that both players have become free agents, allowing them to sign with any organization, including the Rangers, who chose not to offer them contracts.
Garcia, 32, and Heim, 30, played crucial roles in the Rangers’ 2023 World Series victory. Garcia earned the title of American League Championship Series (ALCS) MVP that year, finishing the postseason with a remarkable 1.108 OPS. Despite his postseason success, he struggled in the following seasons, recording OPS figures below .700 in consecutive years. In 2025, he posted a batting average of just .227, hitting 19 home runs while earning over $9 million in salary.
Heim faced his own challenges last season, hitting .213 with 11 home runs and a .602 OPS, while making $4.57 million. Both players were expected to receive raises through the arbitration process, but the Rangers opted for cost-cutting measures, leading to their non-tender status.
Other Notable Non-Tendered Players
In addition to Garcia and Heim, several other notable players were also non-tendered on the same day. This includes Alek Manoah of the Atlanta Braves, Nathaniel Lowe from the Boston Red Sox, and Reese McGuire of the Chicago Cubs. The list also features pitchers such as Carson Spiers from the Cincinnati Reds and Sam Hentges of the Cleveland Guardians, as well as multiple players from the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Tampa Bay Rays.
The remaining arbitration-eligible players were tendered contracts, securing their ties to their teams for the 2026 season. Their salaries will be determined through negotiations between the player and team, or, if necessary, by an arbitrator later in the offseason.
This wave of non-tendered players marks a significant moment in the MLB offseason, as teams evaluate their rosters and financial commitments ahead of the upcoming season. The future for Garcia, Heim, and their fellow non-tendered colleagues now hinges on their ability to attract interest from other franchises in a competitive free-agent market.
