Ritsu Dōan Leads Eintracht Frankfurt to 1-0 Derby Victory Over Mainz
Eintracht Frankfurt secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mainz in their Bundesliga derby on Sunday, thanks to a late goal from Japanese forward Ritsu Dōan. The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute when Dōan skillfully maneuvered past two defenders on the edge of the penalty area. With a precise shot from a challenging angle, he found the far post, lifting Frankfurt to seventh place in the league standings.
Mainz, on the other hand, faced their seventh defeat in ten matches, leaving them in a precarious position just above the bottom of the table. The loss adds to a challenging season for the club, which has struggled to find form early in the campaign.
Other Key Performances in Bundesliga
In another notable match earlier on Sunday, Japanese player Yuito Suzuki scored his first Bundesliga goal for Freiburg, contributing to a 2-1 win against St. Pauli. The 24-year-old, who joined Freiburg from Danish club Brøndby during the offseason, capitalized on a mistake by St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj five minutes before half-time. Suzuki intercepted a clearance attempt from a corner, firing his shot into the net.
Freiburg doubled their lead shortly after the break, with Maximilian Eggestein scoring from close range. Although St. Pauli’s Louis Oppie pulled one back in the 69th minute, it was too little to change the outcome, marking St. Pauli’s seventh consecutive league defeat.
Another standout performance came from Deniz Undav of Stuttgart, who scored twice in a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Augsburg. Undav’s goals were pivotal in keeping Stuttgart in fourth place, just ahead of Bayer Leverkusen. Augsburg’s defeat marked their fourth in a row across all competitions, raising questions about the future of their coach, Sandro Wagner, ahead of their next match against promoted Hamburger SV on November 22.
Bayern Munich’s Streak Halted
In a dramatic turn of events, Bayern Munich saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end when they drew 2-2 with Union Berlin on Saturday. Bayern’s star striker Harry Kane rescued a point for his team with a stoppage-time goal, preventing what would have been their first defeat of the season.
The Bundesliga continues to deliver intense competition as teams vie for critical points before the international break. The outcomes of these matches will undoubtedly influence the standings as the season progresses.
