State Semifinals Set for Soccer, Field Hockey, and Volleyball

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) has announced the schedule for the state semifinals in boys and girls soccer, field hockey, and volleyball, commencing on November 7, 2023. The event will culminate with state championships from November 10 to November 12, taking place at various venues across the state.

Cornerstone Aquatics in West Hartford will host the state class swim championships this week. Class S will start at 18:00 on November 7, followed by Class L at 13:00 on the same day. Class LL and M championships are scheduled for November 8, with Class LL starting at 13:00 and Class M at 18:00. The State Open is set for November 12 at Yale University, with warm-ups beginning at 11:00 and the competition starting at 13:00.

The soccer finals will be held on November 11 and 12 at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford, while field hockey finals are scheduled for November 11 at Wethersfield High School. Volleyball finals will take place at SMSA on November 10 and East Haven on November 11.

In boys soccer, a notable semifinal match features the Northwest Catholic girls taking on Lewis Mills in New Britain. This contest is a rematch of last year’s Class M championship, which Lewis Mills won 2-1. Meanwhile, the East Catholic girls will compete against North Haven in a Class L semifinal on November 8, aiming for a return to the state championship for the first time since 2022.

The boys team from Tolland seeks to defend their title against Plainville in another Class M semifinal. Additionally, the Shoreline Conference boasts three representatives in the Class S semifinals: Cromwell, Morgan, and Haddam-Killingworth. The Hall boys, previous champions in 2023, will play Staples in the Class LL semifinal on November 7, while South Windsor faces Greenwich in the other LL semifinal.

In volleyball, last year’s Class L champions, Farmington, will face Glastonbury in the Class LL semifinal, while Coventry and RHAM, both with multiple state championships, are vying for the Class S and Class M titles, respectively.

The field hockey semifinals will see Granby play against last year’s Class S champion Shepaug Valley on November 7. Granby has not captured a title since 2019.
