UMaine Women’s Soccer Secures Playoff Victory Against UNH

The University of Maine women’s soccer team triumphed over the University of New Hampshire, winning 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the America East Championships on Sunday afternoon at the New Balance Soccer Complex. This victory propels the fourth-seeded Black Bears into the semifinal round, where they will face top-seeded Binghamton on November 6 at 17:00.

The match began with New Hampshire taking an early lead. In the 40th minute, they scored the first goal, entering halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Maine quickly shifted the momentum in the second half. Just one minute after the break, Jordane Pinette equalized, finishing a long cross from Julie Lossius.

The decisive moment arrived twenty minutes later when Gillian Rovers netted the game-winning goal. Rovers deflected a shot from Madison Michaud into the net, securing the Black Bears’ advancement in the tournament. This victory marks the fourth consecutive year that Maine has reached the semifinal round of the America East tournament.

With the win, the Black Bears’ record improves to 5-7-3. They now prepare to take on Binghamton in a highly anticipated match at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The upcoming semifinal promises to be a challenging contest, as Maine aims to continue their postseason run.
