Arman Tsarukyan Demands BMF Fight with Max Holloway After UFC Snub
UPDATE: UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan is demanding a BMF bout against Max Holloway after being overlooked for an interim title fight next month. This urgent request follows the UFC’s announcement that the interim lightweight title bout will feature Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett on January 24, 2024, in Las Vegas.
Tsarukyan, currently ranked No. 1 at 155 pounds with a record of 23-3, expressed his frustration over the UFC’s decision to pass him over for the championship opportunity. The interim title was created after undisputed champion Ilia Topuria announced he would take time off for personal issues.
“This is hard to accept,” Tsarukyan told ESPN. “I can’t just sit and wait for things to change. It’s a business, and I have the same goal. I believe I can beat everyone; it’s just a matter of time. I hope they give me the BMF title at least. Who else do we have in our division to fight if it’s not Holloway?”
Holloway, coming off a five-round decision victory against Dustin Poirier in July, has also shown interest in facing former champion Charles Oliveira. Tsarukyan believes the UFC is prioritizing Pimblett, who is ranked fifth, potentially sidelining his own chances for an extended period.
“I want Gaethje to put an end to Pimblett’s fast-track,” Tsarukyan asserted. “If you need help, Justin, let me know and I’ll fly to you. I want him to beat that bulls— guy. I hate him.”
The stakes are high as the winner of the Gaethje-Pimblett fight is expected to face Topuria later in 2026, indicating Tsarukyan may have to wait nearly a year for his next title shot. Despite the setback, the 29-year-old remains confident, asserting, “That Topuria fight is going to happen for sure. Everybody knows it’s bulls—. The next champion is here.”
As the situation develops, Tsarukyan’s call for a BMF fight against Holloway adds an intriguing layer to an already complex lightweight division. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely, as Tsarukyan’s ambition could reshape the landscape of UFC’s 155-pound class amidst ongoing title negotiations.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story, as Tsarukyan’s quest for the BMF title heats up in the face of his interim title snub.
