Authorities Bust Campbell Ghost Gun Operation, Arrest Man with 30+ Felonies
BREAKING: Authorities have disrupted a significant ghost gun operation in a Campbell apartment, arresting a 28-year-old man who allegedly manufactured illegal firearms. The operation was uncovered during a compliance check related to his domestic violence probation, conducted by Santa Clara County law enforcement earlier this week.
The raid coincided with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the recent enactment of a California law prohibiting the sale of Glocks and other semi-automatic firearms that can be modified for automatic fire. This legislation is currently facing legal challenges from gun-rights groups, heightening the urgency of the situation.
Prosecutors have charged the suspect with over 30 felonies, including machine gun possession and manufacturing machine guns. Disturbingly, the charges also include child endangerment, as authorities discovered firearms and components within reach of two children residing in the home.
During the operation, officers from the San Jose and Santa Clara police departments, alongside county probation and district attorney investigators, uncovered an alarming arsenal. Authorities reported finding two loaded guns, three nearly completed firearms, and a staggering 35 devices intended to convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic ones.
A 3D printer was also found on the scene, actively producing gun parts, signaling a sophisticated and ongoing operation. All firearms identified were classified as ghost guns, lacking serial numbers, making them virtually untraceable by law enforcement.
“Our task force shut down a busy criminal ghost machine gun factory in the middle of an apartment building,” stated District Attorney Jeff Rosen. “The defendant who was flooding our community with illegal weapons is now behind bars.”
This incident underscores the ongoing battle against gun violence, with the Santa Clara County Gun Violence Task Force leading efforts to enhance the enforcement of gun-violence restraining orders. These measures allow law enforcement to temporarily disarm individuals displaying threatening behavior, subject to judicial review. Santa Clara County has consistently led California in securing these restraining orders, although statewide adoption has lagged.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant. The community’s safety hangs in the balance as officials tackle the pervasive issue of illegal firearms. Watch for further updates as more details emerge regarding the suspect and the implications of this operation on local gun violence trends.
