Bay Area Football Playoffs: Major Upsets and Thrilling Wins
UPDATE: The Bay Area high school football playoffs concluded with thrilling matchups, delivering stunning outcomes on November 10, 2025. Key teams showcased their skills in a series of intense games, setting the stage for championship showdowns next week.
In a highly anticipated clash, No. 1 Archbishop Riordan surged past No. 2 Serra with a decisive score of 33-13 at San Jose City College, solidifying their dominance in the CCS Open Division. The Crusaders managed to control the game with impressive offensive plays, significantly improving from their last encounter two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, No. 1 De La Salle captured their 33rd consecutive NCS title by narrowly defeating No. 2 Pittsburg 24-17. Despite Pittsburg’s strong performance, including eight successful fourth down conversions, De La Salle’s defense held firm, preventing a higher score from their rivals. North Carolina commit Jaden Jefferson was instrumental, rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown.
In the CCS Division II, No. 1 St. Ignatius overwhelmed No. 4 Menlo School with a score of 42-6. Quarterback Caedon Afsharipour threw five touchdown passes, leading the Wildcats to their second consecutive championship game appearance. They will face the winner of the Santa Teresa-Sacred Heart Cathedral matchup.
In NCS Division II action, No. 2 Monte Vista triumphed with a 35-21 victory over No. 3 California. Senior quarterback Ian Ondricek and senior Torin Dunphy each scored two touchdowns, propelling Monte Vista to the finals against Clayton Valley.
El Cerrito continued their strong comeback season, defeating No. 2 Rancho Cotate 26-9 in NCS Division III. The Gauchos, now at 10-2, scored two rushing touchdowns and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, marking a significant turnaround from last season.
In CCS Division IV, No. 1 Branham edged out No. 5 Half Moon Bay 56-45, with Michael Murphy scoring three touchdowns. Branham will face off against a familiar opponent for the title next Saturday at 7 p.m. at San Jose City College.
The NCS Division IV saw No. 1 Hayward dominate No. 4 Granada, winning 41-18. Standout performances included Maurice Hall rushing for over 100 yards and multiple touchdowns, showcasing Hayward’s strength heading into the finals.
