BREAKING NEWS: The Atlanta Braves have just exercised their option on second baseman Ozzie Albies while opting out of contracts for pitchers Pierce Johnson and Tyler Kinley. This significant move comes as the team continues to shape its roster ahead of the upcoming season.

In a bold decision announced earlier today, the Braves confirmed they are picking up their $18 million team option on left-hander Chris Sale, ensuring his presence in the lineup for the 2026 season. Albies, who will receive a $7 million salary in 2026, is set for the final year of a $45 million contract spanning nine years. The 28-year-old had a challenging season, hitting a career-low .240 with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs.

The Braves are also parting ways with Johnson, who will receive a $250,000 buyout instead of a $7 million salary for the upcoming season. Completing a two-year contract that guaranteed $14.25 million, the 34-year-old right-hander had a record of 3-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 65 relief appearances this past season, striking out 59 in 59 innings.

Kinley, who turns 35 in January, will receive a $750,000 buyout rather than a $5 million salary. Acquired from the Colorado Rockies at the trade deadline, Kinley also had a solid performance, boasting a 6-3 record with a 3.96 ERA in 73 relief appearances, including a remarkable 5-0 record with a 0.72 ERA in 24 games for the Braves.

These roster changes are not just numbers—they reflect the Braves’ strategy as they aim to enhance their competitive edge in the league. Fans will be eager to see how these decisions play out as the team prepares for the offseason.

Stay tuned as we continue to monitor developments from the Atlanta Braves and their ongoing roster decisions.
