UPDATE: The Chicago Fire surged into the MLS playoffs with a decisive 3-1 victory over Orlando City on October 25, 2023, at SeatGeek Stadium. This win marks the Fire’s first playoff appearance since 2017, under first-year head coach Gregg Berhalter, the former U.S. men’s national team coach.

The Fire dominated the second half, with Hugo Cuypers finding the net twice and Brian Gutiérrez adding another goal, propelling Chicago to a 2-0 lead just minutes after halftime. Gutiérrez ignited the scoring in the 48th minute by deftly controlling a cross and firing a right-footed shot into the goal. Cuypers followed up in the 57th minute, capitalizing on a misplay by Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to redirect the ball into the net.

Cuypers added his second goal in the 68th minute with a clean finish from a pass by Philip Zinckernagel, extending the Fire’s lead to an impressive 3-0. Although Orlando managed to score in the 89th minute through Tyrese Spicer, it was too late to change the outcome.

This victory sets the stage for an upcoming showdown against the Supporters’ Shield-winning Philadelphia Union in a best-of-three first-round playoff series, raising excitement among the Fire’s fanbase. Meanwhile, Orlando City, which had advanced past the first round in the last two playoffs, is left to reflect on a disappointing season, having secured just one win in their last eight matches.

As the Fire look to build on this momentum, all eyes will be on their upcoming match against the Union. Fans are eager to see if Chicago can continue their playoff surge and make a deep run in this year’s tournament.
