Colorado Volleyball Falls to Cincinnati in Disappointing Sweep
BREAKING: The No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team faced a stunning defeat last night, falling 3-0 to the Cincinnati Bearcats in a crucial road match. The Buffaloes struggled to find their rhythm, losing with scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-16, marking just the third time this season they have been swept.
The loss comes as a shock to fans and players alike, especially given the Buffs’ strong season record of 22-7 and a 12-5 standing in the Big 12. This defeat raises concerns about the team’s performance as they head into their final regular season match.
“We had a disappointing result,” said head coach Jesse Mahoney in an official statement. “Cincinnati did everything right, and we couldn’t get going. We’ve been a really good defensive team this year, but we just couldn’t slow them down for whatever reason.” The Bearcats dominated offensively, finishing with an impressive hitting percentage of .404, while Colorado struggled at just .105.
The Buffaloes will need to regroup quickly as they prepare to face No. 25 BYU next Saturday, November 29, 2023, at 6 p.m. EST. This final match is crucial for Colorado, not only to close the season on a high note but also to maintain momentum heading into any potential postseason play.
Key players for Colorado included Jordan and Splawska, who each contributed 8 kills, while Burilovic added 6 kills. However, it was Cincinnati’s Nolan who shone brightest with a staggering 19 kills. The Bearcats also outperformed the Buffs in assists, with Spies leading Cincinnati with 31 assists compared to Finley’s 19 for Colorado.
As fans and stakeholders look ahead, the team’s ability to bounce back from this defeat will be critical. The urgency to secure a win against BYU could define their season and set the stage for their postseason aspirations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as Colorado seeks redemption and aims to finish the regular season strong.
