Gary Man Charged with Rape After Violent Confrontation

UPDATE: In a shocking incident in Gary, Indiana, Corey Jones, age 43, has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including two counts of rape and one count of strangulation, after a woman reported a harrowing assault. The allegations stem from an incident that occurred on November 3, 2023, at the Al Thomas Senior High Rise.

According to officials, the woman contacted the Gary Police Department while in a state of emotional distress. Officers responded promptly to the scene on W. 11th Avenue where the woman detailed a traumatic encounter with Jones, her boyfriend. She reported that after she refused a sexual proposition made by an older man in the senior apartment complex, Jones physically assaulted her.

The victim recounted that Jones threatened her, saying, “If you don’t (have sex with) him, I’ll kill you,” before choking her until she lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, she alleged that he raped her. Disturbingly, after the assault, Jones reportedly took her underwear, claiming he did not want her associated with his “DNA.”

Police records indicate that earlier that day, the couple had left a hotel in Merrillville where they stayed. They engaged in several errands, including selling shoes at Plato’s Closet and purchasing food at White Castle. Witnesses describe Jones as having a volatile demeanor throughout the day, with accusations and threats directed at the victim.

The victim managed to escape the apartment after the assault and sought help, using a passerby’s cellphone to call the police. She disclosed that this was not the first time Jones had physically abused her, stating she had been too terrified to report previous incidents.

Jones was arrested shortly after the incident on the 1100 block of Broadway Ave and is currently being held on a $12,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 12 before Judge Gina Jones.
