UPDATE: Toronto Blue Jays’ designated hitter George Springer will not start in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers today, July 25, 2023, but he may be available off the bench, according to manager John Schneider.

Springer, who missed Game 4 after departing from Game 3 due to right side discomfort, has shown improvement. “George is feeling better,” Schneider confirmed earlier this afternoon. “I think better than he expected to feel, better than we expected him to feel, which is saying a lot.”

In Springer’s absence, Bo Bichette will take over as the designated hitter, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa steps in at second base. This decision comes after Springer left Monday’s lengthy contest following an awkward swing during the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ dramatic 18-inning victory.

Springer has contributed significantly to the Blue Jays’ postseason run, currently holding a batting average of .273 with two runs scored in the World Series. His experience and leadership have been vital, especially after facing challenges last year.

With the extra time for recovery before a potential Game 6 in Toronto on Friday, there is hope that Springer will return to full strength. Schneider praised Springer, stating, “He’s had an unbelievable year, and I think he has done a phenomenal job of setting the tone for us, not just at the plate, but in the clubhouse.”

The Blue Jays are looking to capitalize on Springer’s spirit and resilience as they prepare for a crucial game in their quest for the championship. Fans are eager to see if he can make a comeback in the upcoming games.
