Hurricanes Secure Four-Star DL DeAnthony Lafayette in Urgent Move
UPDATE: The Miami Hurricanes have made a significant splash on the recruiting trail, landing highly-coveted four-star defensive lineman DeAnthony Lafayette on Monday evening. This marks the team’s second blue-chip commit in just two days, signaling a late surge in their 2026 recruiting efforts.
Making waves on social media, Lafayette, an Orlando native, announced his commitment to the Hurricanes after considering offers from prominent programs such as Florida State and Oklahoma. Previously committed to LSU, Lafayette’s decision adds a powerful edge rusher to Miami’s roster.
Ranked as the No. 36 edge rusher and the No. 391 player overall in the 2026 class, Lafayette has made a name for himself with impressive statistics. Last season, he recorded 73 tackles and an astounding 17.5 sacks. Currently, he boasts 58 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks this season, showcasing his dominant performance on the field.
At 6 feet 1 inch and 230 pounds, Lafayette’s athleticism is further highlighted by his remarkable 6-foot-8 wingspan. A standout track athlete, he clocked an impressive 11.3 seconds in the 100-meter dash and holds a school record in discus. His versatility shines through as he has also played running back, scoring two touchdowns this season.
Miami sources emphasize not only Lafayette’s athletic prowess but also his character, which has endeared him to the coaching staff. As the second defensive end to join Miami’s class, Lafayette will team up with fellow four-star recruit Asharri Charles, strengthening the Hurricanes’ defensive lineup.
This latest commit underscores the Hurricanes’ strategic push as they build momentum heading into the 2026 season. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Miami continues to shape its roster with elite talent. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the Hurricanes make waves in college football recruiting.
