Max Muncy Smashes Dodgers Record with 14th Playoff Homer
UPDATE: In a stunning display of power, Los Angeles Dodgers star Max Muncy shattered a franchise record by belting his 14th career postseason home run during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on October 17, 2023. This record-setting 412-foot drive over the center-field wall in the sixth inning propelled the Dodgers to a decisive 5-1 victory, giving them a commanding 2-0 series lead.
Muncy’s solo shot off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta not only extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1 but also broke the previous franchise record he shared with Justin Turner and Corey Seager. “It means a lot to me,” Muncy stated post-game. “The Dodgers are a franchise that have been around for a very, very long time. A lot of very successful players have played in this organization. And to be able to break that record is kind of huge for me.”
The significance of Muncy’s achievement is underscored by the context of his postseason experience; this was his 70th postseason game with the Dodgers. In comparison, Turner played 86 games for the team, while Seager appeared in 61 games. Muncy remarked, “The biggest thing I would say is it speaks to the fact that I’ve had a chance to play in so many postseason games. That’s always been the most important thing to me.”
Earlier in the series, Muncy nearly claimed the record when he hit a drive that was inches away from being a grand slam, resulting instead in an unusual 8-6-2 double play. Reflecting on that moment, he said, “I definitely thought he got it. I didn’t see the ball bounce at all… I was about to be very frustrated. But I saw him sit on the ground. That’s when I realized he didn’t have it.”
With this win, the Dodgers are now in a strong position heading into Game 3. Fans and analysts are eager to see if Muncy can continue his impressive performance as they aim for a spot in the World Series. The next game is crucial, and with Muncy’s newfound record, the excitement around the Dodgers continues to build. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the series unfolds.
