MLB Announces Spring Training Schedule Kicking Off Feb. 20
URGENT UPDATE: Major League Baseball (MLB) has just announced its highly anticipated spring training schedule, set to kick off on February 20, 2024. The opening day will feature seven exciting matchups, including the New York Yankees facing off against the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota, Florida and the Chicago Cubs taking on the Chicago White Sox in Mesa, Arizona.
This announcement, made on Wednesday, brings thrilling news to baseball fans eager for the new season. The lineup for the first day also includes games featuring the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Colorado Rockies, the San Diego Padres versus the Seattle Mariners, and the Kansas City Royals battling the Texas Rangers. Additionally, the Boston Red Sox will play against Northeastern University, while the Minnesota Twins face the University of Minnesota.
As fans count down to the start of spring training, the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers will commence their schedule on February 21 against the Los Angeles Angels in Tempe, Arizona.
Mark your calendars: there will be 14 games on March 3 and 4, where MLB teams will compete against national teams preparing for the World Baseball Classic. Notably, the United States will face the San Francisco Giants on March 3, followed by a matchup against the Rockies the next day, both held at spring training facilities in Scottsdale.
Another exciting event, the Spring Breakout, featuring games between top prospects, will occur from March 19-22. The Oakland Athletics and Angels are set to play on March 7 and 8 in Las Vegas, where the Athletics will also host six regular-season games from June 8-14 as they prepare for their planned move to Las Vegas in 2028.
Leading up to the MLB opener in San Francisco on March 25, the Yankees will participate in exhibition games at the Cubs on March 23 and 24. Similarly, the Detroit Tigers will also prepare for their March 26 opener against the San Diego Padres with games at the Cubs.
From March 22-24, exhibition matches will be held at various regular-season ballparks, including the much-anticipated Freeway Series between the Dodgers and Angels, a two-game series between the Orioles and Nationals, as well as matchups featuring the Royals at Texas, Cleveland at Arizona, and Cincinnati at Milwaukee.
