MLB Postseason Ratings Surge to Highest Levels Since 2010
UPDATE: Major League Baseball (MLB) is experiencing its most-viewed postseason in the United States since 2010, with viewership averaging 4.33 million fans through the division series. This marks a significant 30% increase compared to last year, confirming the league’s resurgence in popularity.
In a thrilling showdown last Friday, the Seattle Mariners faced the Detroit Tigers in a dramatic 15-inning game that captivated audiences, averaging 8.72 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming platforms. This match was the most-watched division round game on Fox since 2011, when the Tigers defeated the New York Yankees.
The excitement of the postseason is palpable, with MLB and Nielsen reporting that the two American League Division Series games on Fox, FS1, and FS2 averaged 4.15 million viewers, the highest for any network’s division round since the NL Division Series on TBS. Notably, the series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Yankees averaged 7.65 million viewers in both the U.S. and Canada.
Overall, viewership for all four division series in the U.S. saw an impressive average of 4.17 million, the highest since 2011, reflecting a 17% increase from last year. In Canada, Blue Jays division series games attracted an average of 3.65 million viewers, marking a 10% increase from their last ALDS appearance in 2016.
As the postseason progresses, the excitement continues to build. Sunday’s opening game of the American League Championship Series between Seattle and Toronto drew 5.31 million viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming, a remarkable 32% increase from last year’s ALCS Game 1, which featured the Cleveland Guardians and the Yankees.
The surge in ratings highlights not only a growing interest in baseball but also the emotional engagement of fans, with many tuning in to witness historic moments in real-time. As teams battle for the championship, the stakes are higher than ever, and viewership is expected to climb even further.
With the postseason still in full swing, eyes are on the upcoming games and the potential for even greater viewership numbers. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating how this year’s playoffs will unfold, and what impact this surge in interest will have on the future of Major League Baseball.
