NH Democratic Candidates Reject Senators’ Deal to End Shutdown
BREAKING: New Hampshire Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan are under fire from Democratic candidates in the 1st Congressional District for their recent attempts to end the ongoing federal government shutdown. The criticism comes as candidates voice their concerns about the senators’ negotiation tactics, with some comparing them to “strikebreakers.”
Democratic candidate Carleigh Beriont of Hampton expressed her discontent, stating, “Right now, we have senators who feel like they’ve crossed a picket line.” She emphasized the need for solidarity among Democrats during this critical time, highlighting the struggles faced by federal workers over the past year. “Our federal workforce has been treated like they’re not essential,” she added.
Candidate Sarah Chadzynski from Lyndeborough echoed similar sentiments, arguing that the senators’ approach undermines the party’s strength. “We have created a situation where people that were soldiering through this time with the sole goal of health care security have soldiered for nothing, and that’s not OK,” Chadzynski remarked.
None of the Democratic candidates in the district are endorsing Shaheen and Hassan’s rationale that the suffering caused by the shutdown required immediate resolution. Their criticisms signal a growing divide within the party as the government continues to remain closed.
As the situation develops, the impact on federal workers and essential services remains a pressing concern for many New Hampshire residents. The urgency for a resolution is palpable, with candidates urging stronger collective action against the shutdown.
