Paul George to Miss 76ers Opener Following Knee Surgery
UPDATE: Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George is set to miss the season opener as he recovers from knee surgery, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Shams Charania earlier today. George is making progress in his recovery but must meet specific benchmarks before he returns to the court for a regular-season game.
George underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee in July 2024, following an injury sustained during a workout. He was initially expected to be reevaluated in September, but now, it is anticipated that he will make his debut shortly into the regular season, leaving fans eager for his return.
Last season, George struggled with injuries, playing in just 41 games after signing a lucrative four-year, $212 million maximum contract with the 76ers. The nine-time NBA All-Star faced multiple ailments, including issues with his left adductor muscle and knee, which ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the season in March.
During the 2023-2024 season, George recorded an average of just 16.2 points per game, marking the lowest scoring average since his six-game appearance in the 2014-2015 season. Since the 2018-2019 season, he has played more than 56 games in a season only once, raising concerns about his long-term durability and impact on the team.
Fans and analysts are now looking forward to seeing how soon George can contribute to a team that aims to contend for the championship. As the season approaches, the 76ers will closely monitor his recovery, hoping for a swift return to form.
Stay tuned for updates on George’s progress and what it means for the Sixers’ chances this season.
