Police Identify Baby Boy Found Dead in 1981, Seek Public Help
URGENT UPDATE: After more than four decades, the San Bruno Police Department has identified the family of a newborn boy found dead in 1981. Authorities are now urgently seeking the public’s assistance as they continue to investigate this chilling cold case.
On November 11, 1981, the infant was discovered inside a garbage can at Buckeye Park around 4 p.m.. Initial reports confirmed the baby had been dead for only a few hours, with strangulation and severe head injuries listed as the cause of death. Police stated that he was likely placed in the receptacle between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on that fateful day.
In a breakthrough, the police utilized forensic genealogy, a newly available investigative technology, to identify the baby’s family. The department collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety and various forensic partners to achieve this significant progress. However, the names of the infant’s parents have not been disclosed.
“This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice,” the San Bruno Police Department stated in a social media post. They emphasized the need for public assistance to uncover more information surrounding this tragic event.
At the time of the investigation, authorities established that the infant had Type O-positive blood and discovered reddish-brown human hair and black dog hair on the sock used to strangle him. Despite exhaustive investigative efforts, detectives were unable to determine the child’s identity or the individuals responsible for his death.
The San Bruno Police Department urges anyone with information related to this case to come forward. Those who can assist are encouraged to contact the department at 650-616-7100 or via email at [email protected].
As the investigation progresses, this heart-wrenching case reminds the community of the importance of coming together to seek justice for the most vulnerable. Stay tuned for further updates as this developing story unfolds.
