Ring Founder Calls AWS Outage a ‘Tough Day’ for Customers
UPDATE: Ring founder Jamie Siminoff has described the recent AWS outage as a “tough day” for the home security company. The significant disruption, which occurred on Monday, left Ring customers unable to access their security cameras or disarm alarms, leading to widespread frustration.
During an interview with Business Insider, Siminoff emphasized the challenges faced by the company. “You never want to disappoint customers. We call our customers neighbors,” he stated, highlighting the emotional impact of the outage on users who rely on Ring for security.
The AWS outage affected numerous online services and websites, causing chaos not only for Ring but also for other businesses reliant on Amazon’s cloud services. Customers expressed their concerns on social media, with one user likening the situation to the beginning of a “modern scary movie.”
Siminoff, who returned to Ring in April 2025 after a brief departure, has been actively involved in ensuring customer satisfaction. “My email’s on every box that we send out. I’m very out there,” he asserted, stressing his commitment to being accessible to customers during crises.
This outage has heightened anxiety among Ring’s users, who depend on the security system for peace of mind. Many took to social media to voice their worries, with some expressing fears of potential break-ins while unable to monitor their homes.
The AWS incident has since been resolved, with services back to normal. Authorities reported that the outage stemmed from a Domain Name System error at AWS’s data center in Northern Virginia. However, the implications of the outage linger for many users, who felt vulnerable during the disruption.
Siminoff noted, “We got through it,” while promoting his new book, “Ding Dong.” He remains focused on enhancing Ring’s security capabilities, aiming to reassure customers that their safety is a priority.
As the fallout from the outage settles, users are left contemplating their reliance on technology for home security. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities present in cloud-based systems, and the human impact of such disruptions cannot be underestimated.
Customers are advised to stay informed about updates from Ring and AWS to ensure they are prepared for any future incidents. The tech industry is watching closely as the aftermath of this outage continues to unfold, questioning how companies can better safeguard their services against similar issues.
