San Francisco 49ers Void Brandon Aiyuk’s 2026 Contract Guarantees
URGENT UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers have officially voided wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s contract guarantees for the 2026 season, according to reports from ESPN and The Athletic. This development raises serious questions about Aiyuk’s future with the team as he recovers from a severe knee injury sustained last season.
Aiyuk’s contract, signed in August 2024, was worth $120 million over four years, including a significant option bonus of $24.935 million that was set to become guaranteed on April 1, 2024. However, the 49ers have now voided these guarantees due to Aiyuk not meeting the requirements outlined in his contract extension, leaving his status precarious as the season approaches its final stretch.
Currently sidelined since suffering a right knee injury in October 2024, Aiyuk tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. Initially, the team had hoped to see him return to practice midseason, but with only six regular-season games remaining, Aiyuk’s situation remains uncertain.
“Brandon’s just week-to-week,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stated in a press conference on Monday. “When he had such a big injury like that, just waiting until he is fully comfortable to come up and start practicing.” This statement underscores the cautious approach the team is taking as they navigate Aiyuk’s recovery.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the 49ers will fulfill Aiyuk’s $1.215 million base salary, along with any associated bonuses for workouts and per-game appearances. The voiding of his contract guarantees adds a layer of complexity to his potential return and future with the franchise.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the situation unfolds. The 49ers, currently assessing their roster and playoff hopes, may need to make critical decisions in the coming weeks. The absence of Aiyuk, a key offensive player, could significantly impact the team’s performance as they look to secure their postseason chances.
