Shedeur Sanders Likes Post Urging Browns to Bench Dillon Gabriel
UPDATE: Tensions rise among Cleveland Browns fans as rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel struggles, prompting calls for a change at the position. Following a disappointing performance where Gabriel threw two interceptions in a loss, many are now rallying behind fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders to lead the team.
Gabriel, who has started four games since the Browns traded Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, has accumulated 683 yards with four touchdowns and a passer rating of 78.4. However, the team’s record during this stretch stands at just 1-3, raising alarms about his effectiveness. The Browns have averaged a dismal 246.5 yards and 17.5 points per game since Gabriel took over, leading to widespread discontent among the fanbase.
In a recent social media stir, Browns reporter Brad Stainbrook of ESPN Cleveland expressed his support for Sanders, stating, “I’ve seen enough of Dillon Gabriel. It’s time for the Browns to start getting Shedeur Sanders ready after the bye week.” Stainbrook’s post gained traction when Sanders liked it, suggesting his agreement with the sentiment that it’s time for a change.
“Gabriel’s had his shot, and the team feels flat,” Stainbrook continued. “Let the rookie learn on the fly, make mistakes, and grow. There’s no better time to see what you’ve got in Shedeur.” Fans echoed this sentiment, longing for a spark in an offense that has struggled for consistency.
Sanders, who has yet to take a regular-season snap, made an impression during the preseason, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a convincing 30-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Despite a rough final preseason game, where he went 3 of 6 for 14 yards while facing a third-string offensive line, Sanders remains confident in his abilities.
During an interview with ESPN Cleveland, Sanders boldly claimed,
“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that.”
As the Browns prepare for their bye week, fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see if the team will make the switch to Sanders. The urgency for change is palpable, as Cleveland seeks to regain momentum in a competitive division.
Stay tuned for the latest updates as this story develops and the Browns decide on their quarterback trajectory moving forward.
