Turf Paradise Undergoes Major Revamp with New Management
UPDATE: Turf Paradise is embarking on a significant transformation under new management, marking a fresh chapter for Phoenix’s historic racetrack. This major overhaul, led by seasoned racing veteran Tom Ludt, aims to elevate the venue and its horse racing culture.
Located near 15th Avenue and Bell Road in Phoenix, Turf Paradise, which has been a staple since 1956, is set to undergo extensive renovations that include a complete revamp of the track surface. Ludt, the new general manager, previously managed Santa Anita and served as head of the Breeders’ Cup. He brings over a decade of experience from the Kentucky Racing Commission to his new role.
“This is a wonderful city with great potential,” Ludt stated. “They have a strong population and economy, and it’s time to push horse racing to the next level.” His vision starts with investing millions in the racetrack’s infrastructure, prioritizing safety and performance.
The upgrades will feature improved general admission and grandstand areas, aiming to attract both novice and seasoned horse racing fans. Legendary track announcer Vic Stouffer, recently coaxed out of retirement, joins the team, highlighting the caliber of leadership at Turf Paradise. “These are major players in the racing industry, and I wanted to be a part of that,” Stouffer remarked.
While construction is ongoing, Ludt emphasizes the need for patience as they strive to restore Turf Paradise to its former glory. “We have to create an environment that appeals to everyone,” he said, noting the importance of making the track welcoming to all visitors.
Turf Paradise offers live racing from Mondays to Thursdays, with select races on Fridays and Saturdays. Race schedules can be found on their official website, encouraging fans to stay updated as this iconic venue evolves.
As the renovations progress, the racing community watches closely. Will these changes attract a new generation of spectators and revive the excitement of horse racing in Phoenix? Only time will tell, but the stakes have never been higher for Turf Paradise.
