Two Killed in Fast-Moving Thanksgiving Fire in Orange, NJ
URGENT UPDATE: A devastating fire has claimed the lives of two individuals in Orange, New Jersey, on Thanksgiving Day. The blaze erupted around 5 p.m. at a home on Mosswood Avenue, quickly engulfing the structure before firefighters arrived, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Witnesses report that the fire spread rapidly, leaving the community in shock as emergency services responded within minutes. Tragically, two people inside the home did not survive. The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Local resident Claire Stevens, who lives nearby, expressed her deep concern for the family affected. “My grandson was good friends with one of the young people that lived there,” Stevens said. “And she’s out of the country right now. I’m just really concerned that maybe she doesn’t know about her relatives that live in the house that might have been affected by the fire.”
As the community rallies together, the American Red Cross has stepped in to assist a family of eight displaced by the fire, providing emergency financial aid for temporary lodging, food, and necessities. Community members are seen keeping warm inside a NJ Transit bus as they await further information.
Neighbor Matthew Mehr shared his memories of the victims, stating, “I just know that they kept their yard really nice, and whenever I would go for a walk or run, they were super friendly.” The emotional impact of this tragedy is palpable as neighbors come together to remember the lives lost and support those affected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working diligently to uncover more details. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and supportive as the community navigates this heartbreaking event.
