University of Louisville Launches “Swiftonomics” Class NOW!

UPDATE: The University of Louisville has just announced a groundbreaking new course, “Swiftonomics,” that will use Taylor Swift’s career to teach economics. Students can now earn college credits while exploring the business aspects of the pop icon’s success, from soaring concert ticket prices to economic trade-offs in the music industry.

COURSE DETAILS: The class, developed by Beth Munnich, an associate professor of economics, invites students to dive into economic questions already buzzing among Swift fans. “She’s had a huge economic impact. She’s an incredible business person. And so we thought, well, let’s try this,” Munnich stated in an interview with WMUR-TV.

Currently offered as a unique one-time course, Munnich is optimistic about making “Swiftonomics” a permanent fixture in the curriculum if student interest is strong. This innovative approach follows a trend among universities leveraging Swift’s cultural influence for educational purposes.

GLOBAL TREND: The University of Louisville is not alone in this initiative. Earlier this year, Stanford introduced a course titled “All Too Well (Ten Week Version),” examining the deeper meanings behind Swift’s lyrics. The University of Texas at Austin has also offered “The Taylor Swift Songbook,” comparing her lyrics to classic literature. Meanwhile, Canada’s Queen’s University featured “Taylor Swift’s Literary Legacy” in its Cultural Studies program. Additionally, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute launched a course focused on her evolution as an artist and entrepreneur in 2022.

WHAT’S NEXT: As the course gains traction, there is speculation whether it will include insights from Swift’s upcoming docuseries and concert film set to premiere on Disney+. This adds another layer of relevance as fans eagerly await new content from the artist.
