UPDATE: A significant burglary has hit the Boulder tree care community, with at least $30,000 worth of equipment stolen from Velte Forestry and Arboriculture over the weekend. Authorities were alerted on Monday, July 10, 2023, after the theft was discovered at the business located on the 2700 block of Pine Street.

Police spokesperson Dionne Waugh confirmed that an unknown suspect broke into a garage between Friday and Saturday, making off with critical equipment. The stolen items include essential tools for the business, such as all of the company’s chainsaws, a chipper truck, a trailer, and a skid steer.

Owner Paul Velte expressed deep concern about the impact of this theft on his operations. “This is really affecting our business,” he said, highlighting their struggle to borrow equipment from other arborists in the area to continue their work this week. “Arborists can usually figure it out,” Velte added, emphasizing the resilience of the community in the face of adversity.

Police are actively investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Waugh stated that they are exploring all possibilities regarding the burglary. Anyone with tips is encouraged to reach out to Detective Kipp Euler at [email protected] or by calling 303-441-3393, referencing case number 25-10834.

This urgent situation not only represents a significant financial loss for Velte Forestry but also disrupts vital services in the Boulder area. As the investigation unfolds, the community’s support will be crucial in identifying the thief and recovering the stolen equipment. Stay tuned for updates as police continue their inquiries into this alarming crime.
