UPDATE: A devastating car fire in West San Jose has displaced 10 residents after it rapidly spread to two nearby apartment buildings late Thursday night. The San Jose Fire Department reported the incident at 11:03 p.m., marking a three-alarm blaze that prompted a swift emergency response.

The fire ignited in a carport, located between two nine-unit apartment buildings at the northeast corner of Del Mar Avenue and Marlboro Court. It quickly engulfed multiple vehicles before spreading to the buildings themselves. Firefighters worked tirelessly to control the flames, successfully knocking them down within an hour. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

However, the damage was significant. A unit facing Marlboro Court was completely destroyed, while another unit on Del Mar Avenue suffered extensive fire damage. Two additional units in the Del Mar Avenue building experienced moderate damage, and five other units sustained damage from smoke and firefighting efforts. As a result, the entire Del Mar Avenue building was deemed uninhabitable due to fire damage and the necessity of shutting off utilities.

Residents of the Marlboro Court building, aside from those in the destroyed unit, were allowed to return to their homes. The fire department is currently investigating the cause of this alarming incident.

This fire highlights the urgent need for fire safety awareness as it has not only affected the lives of those directly displaced but also raises concerns for the surrounding community. As the investigation continues, residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
