Urgent: Police Investigate Burglary at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Home
UPDATE: Police are actively investigating a burglary at the home of Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, which occurred while the NBA’s reigning MVP was playing against the Washington Wizards on the evening of October 26, 2023. The incident took place around 7:45 PM, shortly before police received a report of the break-in.
Authorities in Nichols Hills, a suburban area north of downtown Oklahoma City, responded to the scene where they found that the suspects had fled before their arrival. Police have yet to confirm the identity of the homeowner or disclose what items may have been stolen.
Local news outlets have reported police presence at the scene, highlighting the growing concern around burglaries targeting professional athletes. In a statement, police mentioned, “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”
This burglary is part of a troubling trend where high-profile athletes are increasingly targeted by thieves. Recent months have seen similar incidents involving notable sports figures such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, Luka Doncic, and Evgeni Malkin. Law enforcement has warned that these crimes often occur on game days, when players are away from their homes, with thieves commonly breaking in through rear windows.
In response to the rising number of burglaries, the NBA sent a memo to teams back in November 2024, urging players to enhance their home security measures. Recommendations included installing updated alarm systems with cameras, securing valuables in locked safes, and removing online listings that may expose their homes.
As the investigation unfolds, fans and community members are urged to remain vigilant. Local authorities continue to work on leads in the case, and residents are encouraged to take proactive measures to protect their properties.
