Urgent Search for Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland Ends in Tragedy

Authorities confirmed Kneeland was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early on November 6, 2023, after a chaotic pursuit that began just hours earlier in a suburban area of Dallas.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on November 5, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers attempted a traffic stop on Kneeland’s Dodge Charger. The chase, which reached alarming speeds, culminated in a crash with a Ford F-350 in Frisco, Texas. Body camera footage shows the moment the two vehicles collided, leaving the scene in disarray and a female driver visibly shaken.

“I saw him in my rearview mirror coming as fast as he was. I was like, ‘Oh my God, he’s not stopping,’ and then he just plowed into me,”

the distraught woman recounted to officers at the scene.

As the search for Kneeland intensified, authorities, initially unaware of his identity, believed the car had been stolen. The situation took a dire turn as Kneeland’s family reached out to police, expressing fears for his safety after he sent messages indicating he intended to harm himself.

By 11:20 p.m., police had established a perimeter around a wooded area and drainage tunnels, deploying K-9 units and a drone in hopes of locating him. Officers warned, “If you’re in this tunnel, I’m going to send my dog in here. He is going to bite you. This is your last opportunity,” but efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.

After a lengthy search, authorities identified Kneeland as the suspect around 1 a.m. on November 6. His girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, initially withheld information but later collaborated with police. She was reportedly distressed, stating, “He’s going to kill himself. I can’t tell you where he’s at.”

Tragically, Kneeland’s body was discovered around 1:30 a.m. in a portable toilet, marking a devastating end to the search. The Cowboys organization has since announced a memorial fund to support Mancera, who is expecting their child.
