Urgent Weather Alerts Issued for Nearly Entire U.S. Coastline

UPDATE: Nearly the entire U.S. coastline is under multiple weather alerts as the National Weather Service (NWS) warns of dangerous conditions caused by a strong low-pressure system. This urgent situation is affecting beachgoers and mariners alike, with alerts in place from the East Coast to the West Coast.

The NWS has confirmed that the hazardous conditions are not linked to Hurricane Melissa, but rather the result of powerful storm systems causing perilous weather across the nation. A critical storm in the Northeast is expected to escalate coastal hazards, while strong northwesterly winds are generating dangerous ocean conditions on the West Coast.

In the Gulf, NWS Houston has issued a low water advisory, warning that small craft advisories span the coast from Louisiana to Florida. “Winds and bay waters are gradually improving from previous gale conditions, but will remain hazardous to small craft through much of the morning,” NWS Houston reported.

Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions.” Meanwhile, NWS Mount Holly reiterated the seriousness of the situation, “A Coastal Flood Warning means that moderate or major tidal flooding is occurring or imminent. Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property.”
