User Ditches RTX 3060 Ti for Integrated Graphics, Faces Nightmare
UPDATE: A tech enthusiast has just revealed a shocking experience after removing their RTX 3060 Ti graphics card and relying solely on the ancient Intel UHD Graphics 770 for a week. The results were so disappointing that they quickly reverted to their dedicated GPU.
In a bold move, the user sought to test the limits of integrated graphics, only to realize that the performance drop was far more severe than anticipated. With a powerful Intel Core i9-12900K CPU and 32GB of RAM, the individual expected to manage with the dated graphics unit, but the reality proved to be a nightmare.
Despite handling basic tasks like writing and video calls competently, the Intel UHD Graphics 770 struggled with even casual gaming. Titles like Escape From Duckov and Insurgency: Sandstorm fell short, running at a dismal average of just 28 FPS on low settings at 1080p. In stark contrast, the RTX 3060 Ti delivered a remarkable 122 FPS in similar conditions.
The user noted the peace and quiet of their PC without the graphics card, but this tranquility was quickly overshadowed by significant performance issues. Adobe Lightroom, a crucial tool for their workflow, lagged noticeably without the dedicated GPU. Tasks that were once quick became painfully slow, particularly for AI-driven functions like denoising, which took up to five minutes per image with integrated graphics.
In a statement reflecting their frustration, the user remarked, “I didn’t think I’d miss my graphics card this much in such a short time.” They acknowledged that while integrated graphics might suffice for office builds, the performance degradation for any graphics-related tasks was simply unacceptable for their main PC.
This experiment serves as a stark reminder of the importance of dedicated graphics in modern computing, especially for tasks beyond basic usage. As of now, the RTX 3060 Ti is back in place, solidifying its status as an essential component of their setup.
The immediate takeaway? For users who rely on performance-heavy applications or gaming, downgrading from a dedicated GPU to integrated graphics can lead to significant setbacks. It’s a cautionary tale for anyone contemplating a similar switch.
