Beta Cinema has successfully closed a series of important international presales for the upcoming sequel, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf, which is currently in production across Finland, Iceland, and Germany. Notably, Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights for North America, while other significant deals have been finalized with Signature Entertainment for the UK and Ireland, Mediawan for France, Twelve Oaks for Spain, and Hagi Film for Poland.

The film is a follow-up to the original Operation Napoleon, which achieved notable success, selling to over 40 territories, including a previous agreement with Magnolia for the U.S. market. The original film was particularly well-received in Germany, where it performed strongly in 2023.

Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf reunites a talented cast, including Vivian Ólafsdóttir (known for It Hatched), Jack Fox (from Riviera), and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (featured in Severance and True Detective). The film is directed by Jyri Kähönen, who also directed the original, with a screenplay penned by Marteinn Thorisson, the original scribe, and Tom Weston-Jones (known for True Things and Warrior).

Joining the cast is Laura Birn, recognized for her roles in Void and A Walk Among the Tombstones. In this sequel, Ólafsdóttir portrays Kristin Jóhannesdóttir, a lawyer embroiled in an international conspiracy after being wrongfully accused of murder. The plot follows Kristin and her team as they seek the legendary “Tears of the Wolf,” a hidden cache of Nazi diamonds from World War II.

The narrative intensifies as Kristin witnesses a murder, which leads her to uncover encrypted codes and musical clues. This quest takes the characters across Iceland, Finland, and Germany, culminating in a dramatic confrontation set in Helsinki’s wartime bunkers and the Finnish archipelago.

Production of the film is spearheaded by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein from Germany’s Splendid Entertainment, alongside Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Sagafilm representing Sweden and Iceland, and Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg of Take Two Studios from Finland. Co-production efforts come from Elsani Film. The film is set to be released theatrically in Iceland by Sam Film, in Germany by Splendid Film, and in Finland by Cinemanse.

At this week’s American Film Market, Beta Cinema is showcasing the first promotional reel for Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf, generating anticipation for what promises to be an engaging continuation of the original thriller.
