Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons Star in Darkly Comic Film ‘Bugonia’
Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are set to captivate audiences with their performances in the darkly comic film Bugonia, which premieres in select theaters this weekend. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the movie features Plemons as a conspiracy theorist who kidnaps Stone’s character, a pharmaceutical CEO, under the delusion that she is an alien.
Despite its limited scope, Bugonia delivers a grand cinematic experience, enhanced by a powerful score and raw performances. The film, which is based on the 2003 Korean movie Save the Green Planet!, has generated buzz since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Adapted by screenwriter Will Tracy, the project reflects Stone’s commitment to maintaining its artistic integrity, as she also took on a producer role.
Jodi Picoult Faces Censorship Challenges in Indiana
In a separate cultural controversy, bestselling author Jodi Picoult is confronting censorship after her musical adaptation of Between the Lines was canceled by a high school in Indiana. The decision, made by the superintendent of Mississinewa High School, was attributed to concerns over “sexual innuendo” and alcohol references. Picoult argues that such censorship is problematic, particularly when it allows one parent to dictate what is appropriate for others’ children. Notably, the same school previously staged performances of Grease, which contains similar themes.
Picoult’s literary works have faced bans as well; her novel Nineteen Minutes has been banned 16 times this year, highlighting ongoing debates about literature and education in America.
