SaskTel Enhances Wireless Network with Samsung’s 4G and 5G Core
SaskTel, the mobile operator based in Canada, has begun deploying a cloud-native 4G and 5G core developed by Samsung Canada. This advancement aims to significantly enhance wireless connectivity throughout the province of Saskatchewan. The integration of Samsung’s core technology, alongside the utilization of SaskTel’s 3800 MHz and 3500 MHz wireless spectrum, is expected to improve network speeds and performance for users.
As part of an ongoing effort to expand its 5G capabilities, SaskTel’s network now reaches nearly 90 percent of the provincial population. The implementation of Samsung’s core technology facilitates low latency, which is essential for enhancing user experiences across voice, data, and text services. These performance improvements are set to be further elevated with the upcoming deployment of Samsung’s standalone 5G platform, marking a crucial phase in SaskTel’s network modernization initiative.
Strategic Partnership for Future Connectivity
Charlene Gavel, President and CEO of SaskTel, emphasized the importance of this deployment, stating that it “lays the foundation for a future where connectivity empowers people, organizations, and communities to reach their full potential.” This vision includes various applications such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, immersive gaming, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and virtual healthcare services.
The collaboration between SaskTel and Samsung began with the launch of SaskTel’s 5G network in 2021, focusing on delivering an end-to-end service that meets the evolving demands of consumers and businesses alike. By leveraging Samsung’s cutting-edge technology, SaskTel is positioning itself as a leader in the telecommunications landscape, committed to providing robust and reliable connectivity for its users.
As the deployment progresses, stakeholders anticipate that these enhancements will not only bolster existing services but also pave the way for innovative applications that could transform how residents of Saskatchewan interact with technology and each other. The concerted efforts between SaskTel and Samsung reflect a significant step forward in building a more connected and technologically advanced community.
