Wisconsin Woman Who Stabbed Classmate Goes Missing After Escape
A Wisconsin woman, Morgan Geyser, who was convicted for stabbing a classmate in 2014, is currently missing after she removed an electronic monitoring device and left a group home. Authorities in Madison issued a public alert on Sunday, stating that Geyser, now 23 years old, was last seen around 20:00 on Saturday with an adult acquaintance.
According to the alert from Madison police, Geyser had cut off a Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet. She had been placed in the group home this year after receiving conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Geyser was sent to the psychiatric facility in 2018 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, a plea deal that allowed her to avoid prison time.
Geyser’s attorney, Tony Cotton, expressed concern about his client’s well-being and urged her to turn herself in. “It’s in her best interest for her to turn herself in immediately and not continue with this course of action,” Cotton stated in an Instagram video, addressing Geyser directly. He added, “We don’t know any of the facts about what happened or who might have assisted her.”
The incident that led to Geyser’s conviction occurred when she and her friend, Anissa Weier, were just 12 years old. The two girls lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park in suburban Milwaukee after a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner over a dozen times while Weier encouraged her actions. Remarkably, Leutner survived the attack.
In their confessions, Geyser and Weier claimed that they attacked Leutner to become servants of the fictional character Slender Man. They expressed fear that he would harm their families if they did not comply with his demands. Slender Man, a creation of Eric Knudsen in 2009, became a viral internet phenomenon, depicted as a mysterious figure in edited images and later appearing in various media, including video games and a 2018 film.
Weier also faced legal consequences for her involvement. She pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide and was similarly sent to the psychiatric center, where she was granted release in 2021.
The current search for Geyser continues, as authorities urge the public to provide any information regarding her whereabouts. The situation remains fluid, and police have requested that anyone who sees Geyser contact emergency services immediately.
